Dear Leslie,
Thank goodness there are so many good people out there and life brings us into contact with them. I certainly hope the young man you are seeing is not the last great guy you meet in your life, the world would be a sad place if he is. Now, does God have marriage in mind for you because he made your paths cross? Only if he has nothing else in mind for you. I know that doesn't seem to answer anything - you already knew as much - but maybe coming from it from this angle will help: just because someone is a great guy and you meet does not necessarily mean marriage. If you marry, it certainly will be out of the question for any other great guy you meet afterwards. In the same way, if you have a vocation it means God's purpose in making your paths cross was not marriage. So I would advise you to begin by first of all trying to find out if there is something else other than marriage that God might be asking of you, so as to put your present situation into perspective. If God is calling you to consecrate your life to him, then one of the reasons he may have for having you meet this great guy is so you would realize that following him is a choice of love, by which you give up many things that are good in themselves. He is also preparing you to make a more mature choice, knowing that this is not the last wonderful man you will meet in your life, and so that you can learn to deal with others as Christ's bride, recognizing all the beauty around you, but committed to your one love. |
